I started golf 2 years ago and am currently at a 12.8 index. When I joined UGP LA 1.5 years into my golf journey, I was an 18.3 index. I took 14 of my 18 lessons with a single instructor and fitness coach. I went from an 18.3 to a 20.5. Took a 4 month hiatus from UGP in totality and have been playing better than ever. Here are a few details on how I think their coaching system fails: They have several high quality golf and fitness coaches, that they use mainly for “pro” clients, and market their brand to be the same quality across their entire coaching staff. In my 6 months at UGP, I’ve noticed that their coaching turnover is insane, every session had a new face greeting me at the front desk and it seemed as though they were churning coaches through their system. The specific coach I was paired with had me work on a new swing concept every session, almost as if he didn’t know how to fix my swing faults. This led me to become unconfident in my swing and my game in general, and it also was compounded by the coach specifically being incredibly pessimistic, looking frustrated almost like his inability to help me with my game was an inconvenience to him. For around $320 a lesson, I would’ve expected better from a business touted for training PGA tour pros. I’ve ended up using my lessons sporadically when I just wanted to see some trackman numbers/get fitted for new shafts as I don’t see much ROI on taking lessons with UGP. UPDATE (9/24/2024): UGP Reached out to me personally to understand my situation and were very understanding. They worked with me to resolve areas of my membership I felt were lacking from my original experience. They were very accommodating in making me feel like my coaching needs were met. I have just taken a lesson with one of the instructors I felt were "top class" that I had only worked with once in the past and had a great session. I will update this review again once my practice plan ends.
UGP has added a tremendous amount of consistency to my game where I was lacking it the most. The instruction and facilities are top notch. Big thanks to Max for his voice of reason and practical guidance in the sim, and to Sam for the valuable body and movement work in recovery. Highly recommend UGP if you’re looking to make serious changes and improvements in your game.
My instructor Ryan has been amazing. Knows how to analyze a swing then make long term changes to improve your game. He's also a great guy that makes the lessons a lot of fun. The facilities are top of the line - like nothing I've ever seen. The improvement in my ball striking has been dramatic, and this is coming from someone who has been playing for 15 plus years. I’ve recommended them to all of my golf buddies.
